Linear Bicharacteristic Schemes Without Dissipation
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper is concerned with developing methods for the propagation of linear waves in several space dimensions. The methods are time-reversible, and hence free from numerical dissipation. They are based on bicharacteristic forms of the governing equations, and are made possible by adopting forms of staggered storage that depend on the precise equations under consideration. Analysis is presented for the equations of acoustics, electromagnetics, and elastodynamics. *This research was partially supported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under NASA Contract No. NAS1-19480 while the author was in residence at the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE), NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA, 2368t-0001.

The Linear Bicharacteristic Scheme for Electromagnetics
The upwind leapfrog or Linear Bicharacteristic Scheme (LBS) has previously been implemented and demonstrated on electromagnetic wave propagation problems. This report extends the Linear Bicharacteristic Scheme for computational electromagnetics to model lossy dielectric and magnetic materials and perfect electrical conductors. This is accomplished by proper implementation of the LBS for homogen...
متن کاملA New Implicit Dissipation Term for Solving 3D Euler Equations on Unstructured Grids by GMRES+LU-SGS Scheme
Due to improvements in computational resources, interest has recently increased in using implicit scheme for solving flow equations on 3D unstructured grids. However, most of the implicit schemes produce greater numerical diffusion error than their corresponding explicit schemes. This stems from the fact that in linearizing implicit fluxes, it is conventional to replace the Jacobian matrix in t...

متن کاملDevelopment of Non-Dissipative Numerical Schemes for Computational Aeroacoustics
The ability of popular computational fluid dynamic (CFD) methods t o simulate the propagation of acoustic waves is assessed both theoretically and by numerical experiment. The schemes are used to model acoustic waves generated by a noise source situated at the aft end of a convergent-divergent nozzle. It is found that the acoustic signal that traverses up the nozzle has difficulty maintaining i...
